In a remarkable collaborative effort, STEP, in partnership with various esteemed organizations in both the UK and Afghanistan, successfully conducted a fundraising campaign for the earthquake-stricken region of Herat Province, Afghanistan. The devastating earthquake left thousands of people in dire circumstances, with hundreds of homes reduced to rubble. Through the collective generosity of our donors, we have secured the necessary funds and embarked on a transformative mission to rebuild and restore hope. The inauguration ceremony marked the commencement of construction for 15 new homes, a testament to the impactful change that can be achieved when communities unite for a common cause. Together, we are not only mending the physical infrastructure but also nurturing the resilience and spirit of those affected, fostering a brighter future for the resilient people of Herat.
STEP, is proud to announce that through the generous support of donors, we were able to distribute the first collection of aid within 72 hours at the Kabul Addict Rehab Center.
The Kabul province is facing a growing problem with drug addiction, which is fueled by factors such as unemployment and poverty. Over 7,000 individuals, including women, children, and young people are collected at the Kabul Addict Rehab Center with the goal of helping them become productive members of society.
Unfortunately, the harsh winter weather, compounded by heavy snowfall, has created additional difficulties for those in treatment, with some individuals succumbing to hypothermia. In response, our organization conducted a survey and took immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of those in need. We distributed 1,500 winter clothing items, including jumpers, beanies, trousers, socks, slippers, and shampoo, to provide warmth and comfort during the winter months.
We also recognize the unique challenges faced by women and children who are among those struggling with addiction. To support these individuals, we provided emergency kits to help alleviate some of their difficulties. Our goal remains to provide support and aid to those in need and help them overcome their addiction.
On June 22,2022, a devastating 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan, killing around 1,000 people and destroying the homes of thousands more. It was a devastating blow for a region that had endured unrelenting hardship for decades and had hoped for some sort of respite after the war ended. The goal is to increase and speed up the delivery of humanitarian and resilience assistance to nearly 362,000 people in the two most affected provinces, Paktika and Khost. According to a recent UN report, many of the residents had lost family members and friends, including orphaned and separated children, and their homes were rendered uninhabitable. Interventions such as the restoration of damaged water pipes and preparedness activities, as well as the restoration of communication lines, road access, and basic livelihoods, are critical in addition to food assistance and emergency shelter and repair. STEP raised USD 32,805 through its fundraising. Deployed field team consisting of 7 members to Paktika province, conducted initial survey and distributed AFN10,000 (equ.$112) to 174 families. The same survey and distribution will be done in Khost very soon.
